We just use a blunt end needle and poke the plug out with a capillary. Alternatively, a leather punch and Peek tubing could work if you want a larger piece. Never seen the spring loaded syringe. That’s nice.

Used the same set up.. Could also use a gel punch to pick up the membrane disc and transfer it into the pipette tip..

John Wilson (Protifi) suggested the leather punch. My colleague got a set off Amazon but there are so many, I need to find out which one this was. I tried a nicer looking one and the Peek tubing wouldn’t fit through the hole.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could share the details! Meanwhile, I’ve been looking into biopsy punches but haven’t been able to find the sufficiently long option for packaging narrow tips.

Baumarkt in Germany have springs that fit the syringe. I would just suggest to checkout any hardware store. Just take the syringe with you and see if it fits.

We use essentially the same setup as shown by Rappsilber et al., (DOI 10.1038/nprot.2007.261). IMO with some training you'll be much faster than any solution incorporating a spring. But, yes i also see here a gap in the market. I propose at least 500 bucks per tool from Thermo or so 🤡
