This is grim, and for a University Professor to be spouting this nonsense is an utter disgrace. Its a Professor’s job to teach- to GIVE, not to TAKE.

Here in the UK we’re dealing with the same nonsense from our Labour government, its only thanks to the House of Lords that they were overruled,

More and more we’re seeing that the people who SHOULD protect us from this stuff are bought off by AI companies, and the promise of nebulous growth (that has yet to materialise, and only SHRINKS creative industries),

Sadly, the only people we can truly rely on to protect us right now is ourselves, from spreading awareness, policing our creative spaces (much as I hate having to do that), and developing adversarial tools that directly harm unauthorised scraping (Glaze and Nightshade for example).

Its exhausting battling this crap every day, but these people want us to break, its a war we didn’t ask for, but thats why we fight it all the harder, they don’t have an endless supply of money to burn, so we have to outlast their bank balance, show people GenAI is a financial Black Hole.

Its a war of attrition, one we have to endure. As depressing as this constant onslaught is though, its been reassuring to know that I’m standing shoulder to shoulder with so many other likeminded people, from all over the world, folks I’m proud to call friends.
