How were these underground cells accessed by the guards, for food, etc.? Why did the rescuers need to break through walls? Were the guards barricaded on the other side?

The normal door entries are electronic & reinforced and all the tech has been disabled, according to reports.
Time is running out as the ventilation systems were turned off for the underground floors when Assad forces left.
