Interesting. I have two kiddos but I’m finding Roblox and YouTube much more challenging. Neither of them uses or asks me about Tik Tok.

I think the scholars and the people who are actually doing pisitive things will find other places to go.

There is just so much misinformation garbage on there that I really dont think it's beneficial to keep around

Her eldest was asking about tik tok over Christmas.

He's 12.

All the platforms need better monitoring, tik tok is a good first start.

My bestie's kids (13, 12, 10) watch a lot of tik tok. They aren't learning good things from there.

That’s the trouble. I’m all for freedom but online is like the Wild West- no journalistic standards, no ratings to help navigate what is age appropriate. I’m sure my older kid (13) sees some things he shouldn’t but it helps we live in an apartment so I’m always on top of them.

But honestly I wish I could have kept the phone away longer. He uses it to commute as he takes the subway but now he’s starting to get into watching reels. It’s so bad for kids- it disrupts their attention span.

I agree. My sister didn't want to give her eldest a phone yet but he needs it to contact her for rides after sports etc. It def affects their attention spans.

And it hurts me to think anything should be censored, but as you said, it's the wild west, and a lot of ppl don't think critically now

Yeah I tell my students that I know how to use these platforms because I grew up learning how to navigate physical media both at school and independently. So I’m working on minimizing tech in the classroom unless truly necessary.

And like, I'm not big on censoring stuff for adults, but a large number of adults are also proving that they have no critical thinking skills and maybe they do need less access to blatant disinformatiom.
