Minor correction/addendum: afaik all InterCity trains in Sweden always require a seat reservation, at least the SJ X2000s.

As you had a first class ticket, if you had time, you could have enjoyed free snacks (bread, cheese, muesli, salad, fruit, coffee, tea, juice) in the SJ Lounge at the station.

After a tight connection in Malmö (our train arrived late due to some previous disruptions) we still managed to catch the 5.20pm Öresundståget commuter train to Copenhagen we were aiming for. This train also has a 1st class compartment, with comfy seats and more quiet than 2nd class. 11/

Pro Tip: It is easier to change in Lund. Shorter walk, occasionally just across the platform. All trains to Copenhagen pass through Lund first before reaching Malmö.

This crossed my mind just before the train stopped at Lund and the conductor announced which track the Copenhagen train was departing from – especially because the train driver had just warned that the track ahead was a bit congested. Have to keep this in mind the next time!

This commuter train takes its passengers from Sweden to Denmark over the more than 8km wide Öresund strait, one of the busiest waterways in the world that links the Baltic and North Seas. The trip is worth taking for even just the views! (Sorry for the crappy photo.) 12/

One more train today: DB Eurocity Copenhagen–Hamburg. A decidedly more old school 1st class experience than the previous two: The 6-person cabin is a bit worn down, but passengers get a goody bag and the service is super friendly. (No complimentary books, unfortunately – my wife brought her own) 13/

On the topic of rail bridges with nice views: The 18km long Great Belt fixed link, connecting the Danish islands of Zealand (Sjælland, where Copenhagen is located) and Funen (Fyn) is not too shabby either. 14/

A total of about 10 hours of sitting on a train was a bit too much – but not by much! At 8 hours I still felt refreshed, only the last two hours (when it was getting too dark to watch the passing scenery, and the train wi-fi also started to work less reliably) it started to feel like a slog. 16/
