Wang’s prose is beautiful in that “I am having an emotional crisis in a scented glasshouse” sort of way. Every line feels intentional, and while the plot descends into something that feels almost operatic in its violence and grief, it’s never spectacle for spectacle’s sake. It’s rage, earned.
