I decided to never respond to these bullet emails. I assumed from the get go they would feed this through an AI - there's no way theyre going to review over 1 million submissions by hand. Knowing that software engineers tend to work with data they have rather than data they dont, I gave nothing

Lots of people thinking "couldnt they fire people who didnt respond". They could, but way too risky. There a lot of reasons people wouldnt respond. They're sick, on vacation, were away from their government laptop/network, or just don't have a job that requires routine checking of email.

This lady was fired seemingly as a one-off. Maybe they can't fire everyone who does not respond, but they could choose one, or a small number, investigate their reasons for non-response, and then fire them.

The right response isn't an easy risk calculation.
