We just don't buy anything plastered in the Apron. Haven't bought a chicken from Tesco since they started this silly nonsense. If it's jacked, put it back.
Aldi do free range corn-fed chickens that are reasonably priced. Don’t understand why everyone cares about the eggs being free range but not the chickens.
Sure, the factory farmed ones are cheaper, but for about £8 I can buy a free range chicken that will feed 3 of us for two meals and I make coronation chicken with the left overs that does for a couple of lunches. You can also use the bones for soup.
Yeah I know it's possible but you wanted the reason and price is the reason.
A pack of 4 breasts will be around £3.50 but if free range they will be £8 for 2- that's what people are comparing and making a decision on when planning meals.
I started making stock from chicken carcasses a few years ago. I used to think my mother and her mother were daft. How wrong can you be? Homemade chicken stock is so tasty and so useful.
I dunno but, when you look at the price of chickens, you just have to think about what conditions must the live under to be sold so cheaply yet still make profits for all concerned.
