Necessarily uplifting to see him and his team speak truth to power, to stand firm in the space they occupied. He earned that platform and did not fumble. Brutal, playful, authentic. Grateful to bear witness to his gift, a rich performance that was an invitation, a reminder, a touchstone, a beacon.

I'm still fairly new to the genre, but is it wrong to say he's redefining or pushing the boundaries?

I'm genuinely pretty ignorant on hip-hop conventions and how he's playing with them. Would be interested to hear your take on that.

Kendrick is not redefining or pushing boundaries per se, it's more like he is embracing hiphop's original core values. What's different is that it's never been done like this on a stage as mainstream as the Super Bowl. Beyoncé came the closest in 2013, but this was next level.
