When new users post 'where is the action?' the reason could be two different things, or a combination:

- Actual lack of 'action' (whatever that means)

- New users not yet knowing where the action is, eg. bc they don't follow the right accounts.

in its heyday, I do feel like Twitter was more... interesting? bsky was pretty fun during the big exodus when everyone was excited, but I feel like my timelines are dominated by a small group of very active users now

Have you followed Threads’ development? It seems to have found its feet. I mostly see Threads posts via cross promotion on FB, and they are clickbait perfection. I wouldn’t describe it as fun, per se, but definitely interesting.

I tend to read this “against the grain.” It’s a sign that political events are forcing a new wave of people to look seriously for an alternative to X. The complaints are just the inevitable sounds produced by readjustment.

This is not per se an answer to your question, but I have a feeling that I could use some more/better curated feeds. I don't get much ML-related stuff, although 95% of my follows are ML-folks. I do see a lot of Trump-haters (Popular with Friends) and post from news sites (Following).

I also recommend the Quiet Posters feeds, it captures the posts from people you follow who post infrequently, and thus are really easy to miss.

Given what I seek in a Twitter-like platform, which is admittedly focused on ML/Science/Engineering, Bluesky is just about ideal, but for users with broader scopes of use, it’s clear that X offers a range of viewpoints that are currently underrepresented on Bluesky.
