The difference is that those are closed societies. We aren't, yet. Except for one relatively brief break, Russia has been a dictatorship for a century. Better to compare the origins: In neither case was "going along" much of a factor, unlike here. It was imposed. Weimar Germany is a better example.

I would like to know what I should be doing to stop this. I voted. I worked at my polling place. I encouraged everyone I knew to vote. I wrote postcards to other swing-state voters.
