She makes many good points, but this is the kind of dismissive attitude that's easy to brand as extreme to scare the shit out of normies and send them running to a strongman. The founding fathers had massive flaws and limitations, but they were much more intellectual and in touch with the -->
realities of world history than today's average voter. They set up a constitutional republic that has lasted nearly a quarter of a millennium, that has enabled all the social progress we've achieved. They never would have voted for Trump, or sat on the sidelines as others sent him to office.
Yes, but her screed isn't at the Founding Fathers, it's at the people who constantly run back to them to justify blocking minorities, women, gays, trans, or any kind of progress from happening. Yes, they did a pretty good doc, but they wanted it to change, and too many don't.
With the significant exception of a handful of judges/justices, I know of few leaders who still present their terrible decisions as a defense of the Constitution, or as the intent of the founders. I believe the abandonment of this history rather than its sanctification brought this moment about.
I also think people don’t really account for how drunk they were either. The amount of alcohol just sloshing away in their system at all times. James Madison wanted to have a secretary of beer in his cabinet.
