Okay I am making a presentation about the Biodiversity of Furries and need some data before I make a claim.
FURRY FRIENDS
Please talk about your primary fursona and what species it is. I'd also love to hear why you chose that species IF you'd like to share. and please, share this post around!

Tigers are cool
I'm a chipmunk because Alvin and the Chipmunks.
I'm happy that it's a pretty unique species (there are like 6 of us XD).
I also shot myself in the paw because I use the anatomy from the CGI movies and I have to hunt artists who can work with it XD
I have a dog as my fursona because aside from the personality type aspects, I've always enjoyed drawing dogs. + Little me had a fascination with reading dog specific xenofiction.
I don't know if it counts or is of any use.

(I opted for a slime bc there's a lot of potential silly nonsense you can exaggerate w them art-wise. The androgyny that comes w that species was likely also a big thing for me.)

1) The Lion King made me feel funny when I was a kid
2) I grew up with cats in the house, so big cats have that "familiar-yet-different" vibe for me
3) I love that despite all their supposed majesty, lions are total goofballs
(It helps that I also really *really* like cats tho)
Swapped to a kangaroo named Roux(hurrhurr) because it means reddish fur. Two folks called me Rusty. Liked it.
Then I met someone who went by ROO (continued)
They jovially responded “Good! Now you’re a Lionroo hybrid! Problem solved!”
So I am Zealand the Lionroo!

i can tell you more about color choice/etc if you like!
They're a Roosevelt bull elk (with optional fangs) and I'm not entirely sure why I chose that species? Ever since I moved to the PNW I've been captivated by their... man, I don't know. Their energy? Their vibe?? Something draws me to big ungulate.
I've had an affinity for cold weather ever since I was little, leading to having "polar bear" be a childhood nickname!
I also wanted to make her large (because bear) but still within the realm of possibility - 12' is the largest height for an IRL bear, and Bailey is 12'1" 😅
Besides being a fan of bears in general, I also love the mountains and am from South America so it's also a representative from where I am.
Bats represent rebirth in some cultures, and I was going through some bad times back then and wanted to be reborn, start anew, do it all over, be different
And vampire bat specifically because vampires are hot, cmon eeeeeveryone knows that one!
Hard to put into words but they just feel right to me. Very scrungly and a little awkward. But lovable!
We share a certain fatalistic curiosity, easily spooked, a certain chirpy optimism, oversized front teeth and something of a cheese fixation.
Plus I don't really think I could pull off a mighty dragon.
I was gifted my sona by my partner and i find it fits quite well because i am a wiggly bitey bastard >:3
I imagine mine is a NA pika. Im pretty specific since I partially made mine based on local wildlife here in the PNW as i've lived here for 1/2 my life Its a small rodent and the vibes are closer to my personality long with the look of my body
The build and appetite of a bear, the stubbornness of a goat, the finicky personality of a cat… and, clearly, the identity issues of a shapeshifter.

"Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed."
Thoughtless creatures are always so cute 🥺
it actually wasn’t my decision to have a kobold for a fursona—it was the suggestion of a friend! i decided to humor him and whip up a design for one, and immediately ended up falling head over heels in love with it LOL
(kind of a dragon, complicated)
Reading Eragon at ~15 year and create a Dragon Rider/Dragon duo who slowly merged into one persona.
Now, the "dragon" is to be put in marks, is more a reptile that can be quickly refered to a dragon, so more a dragonoid.
It's like if a wolf was underwhelming- not as graceful or powerfully or particularly awe inspiring, but certainly adaptable. They're just scrawny nature dogs that a lot of people don't like. Despite their reputation, I find them charming in a skrunkly way. I want to pet one.
I originally became one because my favorite plushie is a leopard too and I thought it'd be cute to have that in common with each other
And then I realized that I genuinely just love being a big cat on the internet! :3
my fursona is a hybrid, mostly feline (house cat and a little bit of snow leopard) with some dragon thrown in there too! i've always loved cats and felt connected to them, but i also love dragons and the idea of flying in general!
Also they are so expressive I love it.
They just kinda do their thing at their own pace on their own time and I admire that about them
They're unfairly maligned, and that resonates w me as a trans person
As for why... ear tufts with matching cheek tufts... and it is remarkably easy to imitate their screams

Coyotes would often wander into my mountain town back east, and here in the big city I feel a lot like I, too, am "not supposed to be here" lol
Always just loved foxes, and felt a kinship with them as a neurodivergent kid. Alot of peope complain about them being pests and making weird noises, and having an anxious nature. All things I connected with
That and my having red hair
I picked an Australian shepherd because they always have to be kept busy with a job or they go crazy, and I think dogs love people unconditionally. I like to think I'm similar.
She has horns because she horny.
My love for dragons stemmed from movies like Dragonheart and Godzilla. I always found them to be majestic yet powerful.
And Dragonheart showed me they can be very charming and can be on the good guys’ side.
𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀: Sen (Off-world hybrid lineage)
𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹: I created Kiro to represent my own adjustment to dealing with strange phenomena I was experiencing in my life, they are a psychological avatar to protect mind during exploration into the unknown parts of the wider universe.
Rough childhood, had begun to feel suicidal by 12, looking to spirituality, wound up gravitating to NA spirituality after "God" didn't seem responsive. Wolf taught me about social hierarchy, and that getting abused by peers didn't mean I shouldn't exist, but that they were assholes.
I always loved cats of all types and felt a connection with them. Leopards in particular have a personality that matches mine. And I love the coat pattern.
Cats have always been my favorite animal growing up around so many and after some personal life stuff I want to see myself as a therapeutic cat. And I’m dead because I don’t feel like I was even alive for a lot of my life.
Plus I’ve always had a magic affinity, I like wisps
Discovered later to my delight that a lot of the time they are gravity-defying goofballs
Like a cat that gets tired of being pet and runs off to go lay down away from you, that energy is basically me.
Why I chose a lycanroc for my rp account? Not super sure. Idk just seemed fun and I like pokemon ig.
I mostly did it since it suited my trans ass.
(I also loved lions growing up and did research about them in grade school. . .)
Glad to help in your research!
That is so cool, it's probably the only region with heraldic stoats
They're just so damn stylish and 0 gender.
Main sona: maned wolf, the long legged cryptic canine. Chosen because of similar personality traits to me :)
Bonus 2nd sona: Scottish Wildcat, a functionally extinct (😢) wildcst breed found only in the Scottish highlands. Chosen for being perpetually grumpy.
Why? I’ve just always had a thing for rabbits. Plus, in mythology, rabbits are often tricksters - Br’er Rabbit, El-ahrairah from Watership Down - surviving by their smarts rather than strength. That appeals.
hes my favorite color!
when i first made him he did look more like a gator, but i put my own twist on it because there arent any rules 💙
I promise I will have my presentation recorded for those who want it.
