This #BlackHistoryMonth2025, we join in celebrating the contributions of Black Americans across society & particularly in the workforce. We also pay special homage to the Black social workers who have been leaders in the profession.

These Black social work leaders include NYU Silver alum Cenie J. Williams, Jr. (1939-1983), MSW ’68, the first elected president of the National Association of Black Social Workers from 1970-74 and its executive director from 1974-1982.
NABSW is committed to uplifting and advocating for Black communities while adhering to social work’s values & ethics. Under Williams’ leadership, the organization grew to 80 chapters in the U.S. with affiliates in South Africa, the Caribbean & Canada.
