I think the VAR and Refs should be 2 completely different and independent entities. They should not be mates but rather controlling the facts. Only then can we have objective and (more) consistent refereeing.

At the very end of the VAR check, they actually show an angle after they’ve already decided to ratify the red card, that PROVES MLS never made contact with his studs “high” on the leg. There’s actually a big gap between the players in that shot. He only ever came down in front and onto the foot.

Their only process when one of their mates makes a decision is to immediately look for reasons to support that decision. That's why as many others are saying the var refs need to be completely separate from the PGMOL. Webb needs to be sacked, he's position is untenable
