I’ve experienced it first hand, when I guy at my program said (among other Nazi incel rhetoric that didn’t apply so directly to me) that I needed to shut up and listen to him because “[he’s] a man,” and was told essentially that we had to be inclusive of Republicans too.
I pointed out that hate and bigotry are actually not protected categories, and, importantly, expressing them publicly is entirely a choice. He can choose to keep those thoughts to himself. I can’t choose not to be a woman.
He seems to be scared of me now, as he should be — I’m probably twice his size, and can talk circles around him in my sleep — but I’ve still barely gone to anything at my program since that incident. More because of the weaponization of social justice language than the incident itself.

Every author and protagonist we've used this year has been female. Billie Jo will get out of the dust. Esperanza will rise!
