I've heard mixed things about the "draw everyday," advice. I'm trying to just finish one artwork a week and I'm struggling with even that. 😭

Everyone’s path is different. It’s def good advice to draw consistently as much as you’re able to, but ultimately everyone’s circumstances differ and I know tons of
incredible artists who don’t draw EVERY single day. Something is better than nothing, and slower improvement is still improvement!

It depends if you want to be good or professional level. Doing art for your own fulfillment is one of life's joys and everyone should do it whenever and however much they want to BUT if you want to good or professional you must draw constantly. You can't be a bodybuilder working out once a month

I am a professional :) Agree 100% w/ the importance of consistency & discipline, my point was just that many people’s capacity for daily art time depends on their physical, mental, social, & financial situations. I’ve seen many artists still succeed by doing THEIR best and refusing to ever give up!

If you want to just have fun with art you don't have to do it often. If you want to get good at art you have to do it consistently, everyday if you want real results. It's not different then building physical muscle at the gym

Thing is, I'm trying to make a Webcomic and got big goals and everything. I know I need to do MORE and be more consistent so I'm starting with a small goal and trying to build from there. At least, that's advice I was given if that's a struggle. I get you tho. This ain't just a hobby for me.

That's all I'm trying to say. If you want it to be more than a hobby you have to push yourself beyond your comfort zone. Set a timer. Keep a list of daily art chores. Make an inspiration pinterest. No pain no gain. You can't play piano or draw a dog without discipline.

i think i only stopped having art teachers tell me to "stop drawing so many dogs" once i hit college, but by that point i felt so bad about what i wanted to draw that i stopped drawing once i graduated. i didn't start again until I embraced the cringe

most of my college professors honestly made me feel like shit about it, too. i had ONE (1) painting professor that got really excited about my goofy shit! i still think about his classes all the time.

whatever my complaints about fine arts ed, I at least feel lucky to have encountered him.

I don't want to conflate being "good" with earning income either. Like those things are separate you can be a great artist just for the joy at being good at something hard. Like a marathon runner.
