prang, rose art, and michael’s store brand (whose name escapes me at the moment), all exist for a reason . . . to teach people that sometimes spending an extra couple of dollars makes all the difference in the world.

God every artistic kid got the prang art set that consisted of course colored pencils and oops all wax crayons with 1 ply drawing paper

One year, I got mad and put the pencils in the microwave for a few seconds, thinking it would soften them up a bit.

It *did* do that, but.... also cracked the wood so do not recommend.
