That’s not true. John Finke (rip) got regular funding and was following a different approach. I don’t know who took over his research at UW, or if they’re following his lead.

What I've been hearing (through blogs like derek lowe's) was that drug (proposals/research) for the last 20-30 years got funding if its goal was to reduce amyloid, while looking at (to pick a random) inflammation, CVD and autoimmune causes was regularly turned down.

I was just responding to your definitive statement to bring up that they weren’t just funding amyloid research, but also research re: crossing the blood brain barrier, which is independent of amyloid research. If amyloid reducers work if they have access, that’s a whole other bottle of wax.

Ah. Since the Big Alzheimer drugs are these monoclonal antibodies then maybe I'm unfairly lumping antibodies-crossing-bbb research together. To me they're kinda all doing the same goal (bind to & remove amyloid) and I don't think I'll ever see a tangible result in a person I love.
