There is a real issue with platforms but I have noticed people here will interact with negative posts far more than a positive one. The more this place reminds me of why I liked social media so much the more I realise that I stopped doing so a long time ago. It’s extraordinary what happened. The volume & violence of posts from accounts you had never shown the slightest interest in just exploded. It *must* have been deliberate.

A large part of your social media experience is based on who/what you follow and in turn the rabbit hole that leads to. I primarily follow artists and videos games and all I really see are people sharing their work and what they enjoy so I only see positivity.

Same here I unfollow people who are overwhelmingly negative. Not to say a person can’t be at times cos we all have to vent or deal with real issues but some do seem to get angry at the most petty things and share it and just leads to fights about nothing

I think I myself have let social media addiction syphon away time I'm never getting back, but I don't believe there's no "healthy way" to engage with/use social media writ large.

The difference now is I know that you have to moderate/filter you own experience AND time usage.

Yup if it's delusional enough to rile me up, imma usually just use the moderation tools and protect my peace here. Wasted too much time and energy on people who are living in an entirely different reality already.

I went to the trouble of making a "discourse thunderdome" account so I can engage with important topics & cultural commentary without it being all I ever see all day every day, it's been a huge help.

If the allegation are less at play and people still flock to negativity in terms of willing to interact with that post that says a lot to me. There is an overwhelming positive posts that still get overlooked here simply due to lack of people interacting with just a share or leaving a like for it.

Platform holders have a lot to answer for but we can’t just put all the blame on them cos we control what we wish to engage with online as well. We can share positive stuff and support people as a choice and to not do so is also a choice that leads to more negative posts getting seen.

Yep, started to really pick and choose who I followed after around last year after I became aware of this. If you are in a community that wants something to thrive, constantly being negative without pushing forward what you like just drives people away

Exactly, complaints that are to being eyes to real matters or cos your having a hard time and need to talk about it are always valid but not being solutions and letting the most petty meaningless things or just drawing eyes to bad actors online to start fights helps no one and impacts others.

Self control is a part of this so if you see something that makes you so angry and it’s not a real meaningful issue then ask why you’re engaging with it at all? Just mute or block and walk away. It’s how I deal with the internet and I have a grate time nearly everyday cos I see nothing but cool shit
