That's a relief to hear. That's one of my biggest concerns, using a new program. I'm not a huge fan of change and am so worried I'll hate it after spending a good chunk of change.

switched from a drawing tablet to an ipad with procreate and i’ll never go back

when i made the initial switch i got a paperlike protector bc the ipad screen felt too ‘slick’, but over time the screen protector started to mess with pressure sensitivity + it tears up the pencil nibs really quick

I wouldn't have even thought about that. If I end up getting one, I'm thinking I'll try it without the screen protector first, since I'm already used to not having one, then look into buying one if I hate how the screen feels

Definitely A+ for portability. Started out a traditional artist & the slick surface of the screen was disconcerting at first but fairly easy to get used to. Products like Paperlike also help with that. Pretty much exclusively use my iPad for art and have for almost 10yrs now. Pretty solid imo

I'll definitely look into Paperlike if I end up getting one. The huion has a fairly slick surface already, so I don't think that'll bother me too much, fortunately. Thank you!

I started drawing digital on an android tablet way back, and switching over to procreate definitely took time to adjust and I’d imagine the difference from huion might be bigger, but once I got the hang of it its so so delightful to use.. I would never want to use anything else honestly

Also i don’t use a screen protector so i don’t know how it would feel with one, but i had to adjust the sensitivity so I wasn’t gouging my screen with the pen.

Oh god, the amount of time I had to spend adjusting my huion... I have a super light touch when I draw and am so picky. I'm hearing so many positive things though, I'm definitely gonna do some more research!

the only issues I have is with storage, if you know how to deal with that I find I have no problems with my iPad. it’s portable, decent battery life, has quite a few art options. animation is getting there but for just art it’s versatile I think

Yeaaah, I haven't used any apple products since college, hence the asking around. There don't seem to be many affordable/decent options when it comes to portable tablets you can draw on though :/

some second hands ones can be a bit cheaper, if they’re decent not by much maybe $200 but those are options I’ve been looking at more recently. but overall yeah :/

I know that pain. I hated apple products (even though it was all my college had) but had to admit that reviews don't deny that it is a good art tablet. Also procreate is apple only which is what sold me

I switched from drawing tablet to iPad last year and Gosh it is so much fun since its portable. It didn't take too long to charge my pen and it last longer so it won't be much of a problem. I have to say drawing became much easier from that point and less annoying without cables for it to work

I switched from using my xppen to an iPad and honestly it’s so much better, again nothing wrong with pen displays but for me I just got lazy when having to set it up each time. Love using an iPad cause it’s just right there whenever you want to do a quick doodle or something, and the accessories can

Be unlimited. I use a ripoff paper like screen protector and a thick rubber grip for my pen and life is just heavenly 😸 it’s just great all around if you want to draw in bed or have something to easily have access to instead of having to set up a whole pc and display.

Had my iPad pro since 2023 and it's been amazing. No issues with Procreate - very versatile. Def aim for an iPad with higher storage if it's within your budget, especially if you do heavier renders. give yourself time to research what type of iPad other artists use and see which would be a good fit!

my iPad uses the magnetic apple pencil that comes separate. I have the first vers of the pencil - haven't cared to get the "pro" version tbh.

also keep in mind the size of the iPad. I've got the 11 in. one and I kinda wish i got a larger screen cuz im straining my eyes a bit lol. 😅

I primarily use my iPad these days (partially bc my tablet is always doing something that gives me an aneurysm). I would get the biggest screen you can afford since it’s just nice to have more space. Sometimes I feel like I don’t have enough surface area to work with

Ngl I also use my iPad to do a lot of fic reading too. I like having the words on a bigger screen than my phone (and I feel so clunky trying to read at my computer). And if you have an iPhone or other apple products I do love to airdrop to my other devices. Makes life easier

I do have to admit, the downgrade in size is one of my biggest concerns. I have a 16 inch tablet and use every bit of it. Maybe I'll save up and keep the huion as well...

I have an iPad Pro, with the procreate, Apple pen, matte screen protector combo and I love it. Procreate+Apple Pencil is really good, very intuitive and though there’s a learning curve there’s also tons and tons of tutorial vids available. Adding and creating brushes is really easy.

Yeah that is a lot 😅 but tbh for me personally the investment has been worth it, even went with the one with a bigger screen. However, I did buy mine second hand and the pencil was included, and I went with a slightly older generation, I think 5th? So that helped me a lot with the cost

Yikesss, the one I have is 12.9inch so slightly smaller but still huge screen real estate compared to 11inch ones. I def recommend checking secondhand listings frequently, if you can buy w payment plans too that helps. I got lucky that way and got mine for about $600 with the pencil included

I recommend the pro as well bc if you end making large or intricate artworks, you’ll want something that can handle the layers, dpi, canvas sizes, etc, and not lag or freeze while you’re working.But thats personal opinion,you can get away without it, not required, so what suits your needs is best.

I used to have a huion display tablet and switched to IPad a few years ago. It’s expensive, but it was so worth it for me. While procreate had a learning curve for me, and misses a few functions that PS does have, it’s MUCH cheaper and pretty easy to handle once you figure it out. >>

Thank you, that is *super* helpful! Those are some of my biggest concerns. I can be really resistant to change, and would hate to spend a lot of money to end up hating it, but being able to take it everywhere is such a huge bonus. I've heard such good things about procreate as well, that I'm leaning

But the most important thing for me as someone with ADHD is how easy it is to grab it and start. I almost always carry it with me and now I can draw whenever and anywhere I want. On the couch, public transport on vacation. I open it up and I can start drawing. 100% worth it in my opinion.

Oh and if you do get one, I can also recommend futzing around with what screenprotector and pen tip works for you. I use a paperlike in combination with a rubber tip on my pen, to make my pen slide smoother over the screen and prevent the plastic-y tapping noise it makes.
