Many conservatives would support these efforts, but Trump has never put abortion on his agenda. He's made several comments about leaving it to the states.
Trump can adapt pre-Dobbs strategy of adding burdens to reproductive rights. For example, it is probably too politically costly for Trump to outlaw mifepristone, but he could make it harder to access, curbing telehealth services. https://donmoynihan.substack.com/p/legal-abortion-protections-arent
Another subtle but important way Trump could curb abortion access is by making appropriate training more costly, and by limiting payments to providers for other medical care they provide. Important to note, these impact care in red and blue states. https://donmoynihan.substack.com/p/legal-abortion-protections-arent
It’s funny (stupid) how Trump would go for increasing regulations on certain things while also threatening to cut 75% of the Fed workforce with a laser eye on DOJ. Who is going to enforce all this?
A key strategy abortion opponents employed in the past was to make the public believe abortion was different than regular health care—that eliminating abortion wouldn’t negatively affect women’s health. At a moment where we have visceral examples that the claim is not true, they will double down.
