IANAL but my understanding is that if someone meddles in a private trust they become a trustee de son tort and can be held accountable as a fiduciary. Is there any equivalent for the roles Musk, Thiel et. al. are thrusting themselves into?

Republicans especially have successfully sold everyone on the idea that everyone is corrupt to the core anyway, so why not support the corrupt fucker who speaks for you? Surely he'll get rid of the corrupt people on the other side -- hell, he might even give you part of the spoils!
