This year, I’m focusing much more on teaching listening skills and it’s yet another example of something I wish I’d thought more carefully about 20 years ago. I’ll get there in the end.

Favourite strategy: students write in response to a question which invites deep thinking; lead a whole-class discussion, insisting on 100% focus and tracking ideas on the board; then students improve their written responses before a brief discussion of which contributions most helped them and why.
