Good question! And yes and no. The dinosaur footprints in New England are very specifically protected whereas other locations (like the fossil plants in North Attleboro) are not as protected. For any fossils in the CT River Valley, you must have access to private property where they're found

Also, some states require fossil hunting licenses (like Florida) whereas others (like Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico) do not. But sometimes you'll still need Access to a private locality

Ohhh what is an appropriate amount? Also, I’m in CT and have been getting interested in (ie read a book about) rockhounding and fossil searching, and I’m glad to know this exists.
