I was on the playground in my elementary school. It was terrifying to see all the teachers crying. They closed all the schools and sent us home. My dad worked for the federal government and was sent home, also. From a kid’s perspective it seemed like the world was ending.

Yes. We experienced a lot of tragedy in the 60's and early 70's. We saw so many changes. The hard part now is seeing that go to waste if we allow it.
The evening paper was delayed in order for a special edition to cover the assassination. My sister was mesmerized by the Kennedys.

My grandmother and great aunt took me to see him once. I was only 5. He would be gone not long after that.

Yep. 2nd grade. I didn't fully understand the significance for a day or two. And have always felt it Oswald did NOT act alone. Once I went to Dealy Plaza, I was even more sure of it.

Yes I’m 74 & I was alive.That day is etched in my brain. I was in the 8th grade & our nun had us say a prayer & then sent us home. My mom was in tears in front of the TV . The 1960s was a decade of horrific assassinations of prominent figures that I admired.

I was and in fifth grade. The announcement came over the loud speaker and I remember hearing children in other classrooms cheering. I lived in Montgomery AL at the time. I was too young to be interested in current events but I did watch the funeral with my parents.

This is one of my earliest memories - sort of. I was 3 1/2 and I remember my mother ironing in the LR (she usually did that in the kitchen) for hours and watching tv. It seemed dark in the room and she was very upset.

"Influential"? Maybe. "Great"? Likely not. JFK was a very flawed character. The longer he was POTUS the greater the chance that the media would report on his dark side. The US was more puritanical in 1963. Now, you only have to look at who's just been elected to know morals have become redundant.

In high school after class I saw all the people crying in the hallway. That’s how I got the news. Not (hopefully) a conspiracy theorist but having the president assassinated, then his assassin killed in a police station and waiting 50 years to release information sounds a bit fishy to me.

I watched the funeral on a black and white tv in Northern California.

I was in school - 8 years old. The teacher rolled the tv cart into the classroom and turned on the assassination. We were all crying. Then they closed the school and sent us home, where my mom was crying. When my dad got home from work, he was a mess. It was the most awful day of shock and sadness.

I was alive. I was in grade school. The classrooms had PA speakers. It was announced that the President had been shot. The teacher started crying. And then some kids starting crying. My parents voted Repub, but we watched all the news covering it on TV for the next week or so. It was sad.

Yep. Was 20 yo. Cop pull me over told me turn up radio, that's how I found out. Cronkite teared up saying he was dead. World stopped for 60 secs & then we wailed. Young,smart, funny & vibrant,all the hopes & dreams were gone. Unforgettable.

Yes he is & he should be so very ashamed. Both his uncle & dad were prominent leaders who were killed in the 1960s. I was alive & will never forget either one. Along with the other black leaders who were assassinated in that decade.

Yes, I was 2. My earliest memory, my mother was cooking and I was standing in front of the T.V. and she screamed No and started to cry. She picked up the phone and called my grandmother to tell her to turn on her T.V. I had never heard my mom scream before.
