Personally, I think we passed that point about halfway through 2024. :( I have almost no confidence left in self managed Oracle Database as a long term serious proposition.

I fear you're right. Self-managed _anything_ is disappearing quickly. I remember when all "serious" software ran on mainframes. In a way, we seem to be returning to that model, albeit with fancier terminals.
Disagree, cloud is too expensive and moving back on-prem is a real thing. OSS model works fine on-prem. Even on cloud managed databases come with serious consequences, that you don’t really own your data and can’t put a standby to another cloud.
FWIW, I think there's a reasonable amount of value in this, *especially* for large organisations that want to concentrate on their proprietary IP and leave the relatively low value-add of systems admin elsewhere.
