I think the broadcast quality is pretty good. Mind you I don't watch the between periods gabfest on any of the hockey broadcasts. Not on Prime, TSN, or Sportsnet. A severe reaction to Ron Mclean perhaps.
The pregame coverage is excellent. Much prefer their in game crew compared to what we get with SportsNet. People better get used to it. I can see Amazon making a big bid once the TV rights come up in Canada.
It’s actually amazing, they’re still working out a few kinks, but commentators will actually praise the home team and will offer cool little insights not seen on Sportsnet
It's nice to have more balanced game calling. Picture quality is improved. I enjoy the different perspectives, much like watching the Jays games on Apple TV.
Yeah those Monday night canada games are shown here through ESPN. I’ve seen the Habs twice I think. Not as awesome as appletv baseball but similar. Better picture - seems more muted. Pretty good color and play by play. A couple more cameras. Sleek score clock. What feels like different sound too.
It was fine. For me, the biggest issue is that on cable I'll have a secondary game I turn to during intermissions and commercials. When the game's on Amazon, it's a whole process to switch back to cable, so I can't do that. Production wise, it's good.
The good: picture quality and you won't be bombarded with Leafs trivia/marketing during the pregame or intermission. 90% of the focus on the game they are covering.
The bad: you can't pause or rewind. Well...you can but it messes up the feed.
The worst part about it is that you are supporting Jeff Bezos.
The second worst part is the insulting fact that the NHL seems to think that making people pay for three separate services to watch the Jets is a good thing.
The CBC should bid for the rights when they become available.
I prefer the TSN broadcast. Sportsnet turns everything into a Leafs show regardless of whether they are playing. they don't add much for extra produced content outside of the game, but I didn't mind it in the past.
The game coverage was decent. The pre game and between period coverage was odd. It was set in a fairly isolated area and it seemed like they were broadcasting from a community centre.
I liked them better than Sportsnet. Hate that it’s another thing you have to pay to watch the game. And I pay for Centre Ice so it burns me it’s not on that.
I haven't given Amazon any money for the privilege of watching their product, but from my experience with sailing the seas, their production is fairly competent for a first year entry. They are trying to be insightful and easy to digest for the newish viewer.
Much better sound as they amplify the crown noise. The picture is also better than Sportsnet 4k. Only had 1 game where there was some pixelation but it was at the start and didn't last long. If they can get the local broadcasters it would be the best.
I LOVE the in-arena cam/sounds that starts before the game and just lets you hear the sounds of the arena, people filing in, players getting ready to come out and the warm-ups.
I’ve watched all the games they have broadcast this season.
It’s miles better quality than any sports channel. They have a better balance on audio for rink/crowd sound vs broadcasters.
There’s no team bias or unnecessary rambling
- very cool “pregame” which is just the sights and sounds of the arena during the 30min before the game starts.
- the broadcast is decidedly Jets (or whatever Canadian team is playing) focused. No pretaped insiders segments that were online 4 hours earlier, only game they focus on (1/3)
Bad
- it’s another expense to watch the Jets, after TSN&SN. It’s already too difficult to legally watch 🏒 and this is another hurdle (although having Amazon Prime is pretty common already I would think)
- Bezos is a Buffon and Amazon is a bad company, but frankly Bell & Rodgers are no saints (3/3)
The NHL is really dropping the puck in not having 1 steaming source for fans to watch their team. This forces people that do no want, or can not afford 3 different streaming services to pirate games. FFS NHL get your shit together...
Well, Amazon is owned by some dude who is willing to bribe people in order to enrich himself and as a side benefit destroy what is remaining of the American middle class. So there is that. In short, Amazon can fuck all the way off.
Don’t like the feeling of being “stuck” in the app. Too onerous to get out of the platform and check other stuff during commercials/intermission. Though I’m sure that that is part of the appeal from the streaming services. Once you are in the platform, you just kinda…stay. Not changing channels.

Same guy closing warehouses due to workers trying to organize. Awful look for nhl hitching their wagon to this oligarch

The only con is its Bezos
It’s the best on tv right now
Felt like they were fans of SJ for most of tonight’s broadcast until the postgame show.

- IF you have Prime, it’s extremely easy to access, often right on the front page (2/3)
