Christmas 1990, Santa brought me a 520 Atari ST. It wasn't a brand new machine as had been used at my dad's work to run some accounting software.

Dual external floppy drives, 1Mb RAM upgrade and a Hi-Res monochrome monitor. It was a beast compared to my old C64 :)

I'd have probably preferred the Amiga with hindsight, but ended up getting the ST for its MIDI ports.

It was an A500 that I got indeed for Christmas. Must have beein 1989 or 1990. A few years later I bought my first PC, a 486 with 100Mhz... would have stayed with Amiga if it was not for DOOM. Well... nowadays I can run DOOM just fine on Amiga as well thanks to PiStorm.

I was an Atari fanboi back in the day so I wanted an ST. Didn't get one for Xmas though, was a few months after when my dad got an ex-demo 520STFM. Now I'd be happy with either and a nice monitor to go with them under the tree 😀

I got a 520ST for Christmas…. 37 or 38 years ago. Loved that computer. Only one other kid I knew had a computer. We were true 80’s nerds. Coded a D&D style text adventure in Basic on that machine. I miss that time so much.

I got a 1200 then a few short months later a PC and never looked back. I wanted the A500 but unfortunately by the time i got the A1200 i had played most the games and rarely used the 1200.

At the time 16bits became popular, I decided to get a computer that I could use for professional use.
So my first 16bits was a 80286. And strangely, I really enjoyed that computer.

I wanted the Atari, but got he Amiga! It was probably the best wrong Christmas present I could have got.

IMHO the Atari has aged better in terms of looks, but the Amiga is still an amazing machine, so much so I've still got an 1200 on my bench today.

I've also restored an 1040STE and 1040STf :-)
