Emphasizing again that anyone who responds to "that's illegal" with some variant of "lol all law is meaningless you're a sucker for thinking that matters" is actively doing PR for Trump and helping him.
Nihilism about the law is the best way to make sure that the rule of law dies a quicker death.

Unfortunately we're currently seeing that play out in real time
Oh he owns that?
Hmm the FBI will surely arrest him
Oh he owns that too?
U-um the law tho!
And also a small counterpoint…it may encourage politicians to not only rely on the judiciary to be a firewall for their inactivity and incompetence.

While it would be nice if law shielded us from Trump, I suspect it is cracked and will collapse if given too many blows.
Who else in the world could steal top secret docs, lie to the FBI about it, try to hide the docs and not go directly to jail until trial?
You can't gaslight us. We witnessed it.
ex: POTUS cannot just add a new Visa class for $5m payment
It doesn't seem to be being enforced, so what does saying "that's illegal" actually do
At this point, people who claim that the system is holding may be making it easier for Trump to keep going.
Nihilism never met a system it didn’t try to destroy.
Laws don't exist for the powerful in liberal made cultures. If leftists were in power things would be different. But you prefer fascists to us.
To say that they aren’t playing by the rules would be an understatement.
And thus, expecting to deal with this administration typical legal means is a fools errand and the sooner we realize that the better
because that's what's happening
it feels like the judiciary is OK with this in a way it wouldn't be were i the one doing it?
it feels like the judiciary is complicit in its own reduction to the absurd?
(b) How are you helping, again?
Either nothing matters in which case, why not do it
Or something matters, like our care for one another, and this is a good faith effort to build and sustain that
or Ron Desantis in prison for torture instead of gov of florida?
The administration will obey when forced. Not before.
His illegal acts and assaults on the rule of law should be fought tooth and nail, but everybody needs to be aware of the realities of the situation, so they aren’t totally paralyzed if things go there.
Its not that they dont want the law to matter, they simply observe it not mattering
Go bark at the people in power, if it matters so much. Theyre the ones carving out exceptions for power
"Laws are real" prove it. Fucking prove it. The people youre wagging a finger at arent the ones out here making a mockery of your system.
Jesus Christ...
This isnt a problem confined to Trump's authoritarian acts. This is deep problem with the American system, and most people I know who speak this way, have been pointing out structural injustice for years.
"Ignorant people" thats a mirror
Ignorance indeed.
And that authority says Trump is immune to the law. And Trump pardons anyone he likes.
People should try their legal critiques etc but US legalism as a whole has died by its own hand.
Still, the idea of laws that protect our most vulnerable, make sure everybody in our society is taken care of, prevent violent crimes, etc., are not meaningless.
Legal laws aren't self enforcing like say, physics laws are. We have to do the heavy lifting for them, otherwise they're just ideas.
He doesnt need PR. He needs inaction.
The rest of us are just trying to make do with this shit sandwich, don't bark at me for not wanting to eat it.
If law actually doesn't constrain socially malignant behavior, then diagnosing that condition is vital.
Is law a constraint if Trump can fire those who administer the law?
Law in the US has been captured and corrupted. We need to build public support for a deep, durable reformation of the courts and their power.
That doesn't nullify the fact that Trump is above the law.
They have made up "just for this situation" laws before. They neutered the Emoluments Clause, public bribery laws and made up rules on implementing the 14th Amendment. Just for Trump.
Trump is above the law.
He evades the law. He is not above it.
