It'll be because of that one clause authorising the Beeb to broadcast the performance in perpetuity. Completely in keeping with the whole Rogan-based Spotify withdrawal, and the whole premise of This Note's For You.

I saw Neil Young at Hyde Park in 2009. Still one of the best concerts I’ve attended. And still I agree completely with this. He’s way out of line with this nonsense criticism.
Also Hyde Aprk was sponsored by international chain guard Rock cafe in 2009. Didn’t seem to both Mr Young then.

The previous time he played Glasto he allowed the BBC to show only 5 tracks. Seems like times have moved on and this was no longer acceptable to the BBC since they have streamed all the main stages for a while.

I doubt that. I think it's more likely that the BBC wanted to pump the whole of his set out to the world on TV and Radio and he wasn't happy to let that happen because he's not a BBC simulcast kind of guy, and he's also a lot more loose than most artists and doesn't want everything on tape

Another point about the word 'corporate' is that Young uses it along with 'we' - not just him, but the band and maybe the whole team behind the band, his website, archive etc.

I guess we won't be getting a Neil Young at the BBC special any time soon.

Incidentally, I've only made it to Glasto once (mid 2000s) - Leonard Cohen was on, and from memory he refused to have his set televised.

I was thinking this too - Leonard Cohen definitely wasn't televised, at his insistence - every year there's a huge amount of stuff that isn't - but he didn't headline and I expect there's more pressure for the BBC to show all of them

It was possibly more that he was old, getting frail, and only on tour because he'd been ripped off by his manager. More specifically he was filming the later London show for release, so having the BBC broadcast the show might have been less than ideal.

Cohen's set was possibly the best thing I ever saw at Glastonbury. Absolutely wonderful.
