Mother lode is a term to suggest "A lot, or almost all." It's a bit of a dated term, but it comes from mineral mining where the largest strip of it is the "mother" of all the off shoots of other veins.
I'd imagine in the same way an alien "Mother ship" is used; it means that it is the origin of other "lodes" or veins, and other "ships." According to Wikipedia, "The term probably came from a literal translation of the Spanish 'veta madre', a term common in old Mexican mining."
Of course, I think there is a lot of undue resentment against the power mothers have, unconsciously. Even children understand it intuitively, it's why it's fairly common for children to verbally attack another child's mother so as to antagonize or bully.
