Fuck Jeff Bezos. I don’t shop at Amazon. Cut them off a long time ago after they kept overcharging me. They still try to reenroll us on their own and we see a charge here and there and have to take our time to dispute the fraudulent charges that Amazon makes on our bank accounts.
I did have a thought about "one-click moving" since the moving industry is so rife with scams and frauds. Tag any items you don't want to move and they'll deal with those as well (small credit for resaleable items or nominal fee for disposal).
I would see it as akin to the one-click-cancel legislation and one I would like to see which is you can't sell products that don't have recycling in place. Corporations scammed people into being responsible for recycling to externalize that cost. They socialize the costs and privatize the profits.
The one-click nature of Amazon. Making it as easy to get rid of things as to buy them. People are overwhelmed and it is psychology easier to acquire more stuff than get rid of old. Not everyone can navigate eBay and FB and CL are filled with scum. Not everyone wants to deal with all that.
A service that can get rid of your things that runs an online store in case things can be sold. A percentage of profits go to charity? Kinda like these second hand shops that raise money for charities in the UK.
If things show up on my doorstep they should be able to leave at my doorstep or garbage bin or a reasonably close facility in the case of bottle or container deposits. Sell batteries? Now you recycle batteries as well. Build in the lifecycle costs.
Here in Michigan you can always find a crew of aspiring young entrepreneurs in the Detroit area that would be more than happy with removing all your items from your apartment. Like, everything. For free. And those guys work really fast too, and they will make sure to remove your valuables first.
Unfortunately you can find that everywhere. Detroit is filled with utter badasses as well, it is a resilient city. It was founded before the United States (1701!) and will likely be around long after. It is the home of techno. Home of Motown. Home of the Woodward Dream Cruise. Of Emenim. ❤️ Detroit.
I remember rolling into Detroit for DEMF and a guy walks up to the car and says something about quarters. I figure he is asking for money and I tell him sorry I am near broke and couldn't help him. He says “no I asked if you needed any quarters” and hands me like $20-$30 in quarters 🤣
Second hand marketplace https://Vinted.com just lauched furniture and electronics categories in my country. They ship furniture door to door with verification. Its not big in USA tho, mostly europe(~65mil users)
For anyone who needs it, look up a local Hoarding Service. Even if you’re not a hoarder, they will help.
I engaged Michigan Hoarders for my mother in laws appt and they cleaned that place OUT. It was astonishing.
on craigslist I just started offering things for free. People are crazy out there...all my stuff was gone that same day. Do you really want to haggle with someone about that crappy lamp for a few bucks? No, so post it as free and watch it fly away within an hour or two.
I'm motivated enough for high value items, it's the lower value items that are perfectly fine but I don't want to just throw in the trash that I'm stuck with for years.
I'd pay to have them taken away if there was at least some effort to find them a new home
this is how i feel too. would much rather have a book eg donated to a local library, even if they threw it out eventually, and would happily pay someone to do logistics for this
I once listened to a lecture of a guy who explained how he created a service for a clothing rental service for children. Because why would you spend a ton of money on clothes that won't fit your kid in a few months/years?
I forget the name of the company. They did this for eBay, even having drop off locations. They sell for you and list for you and get a huge cut. The only work you have to do is get it to them or schedule a visit for them to come see what you have and pick it up.

capitalist propaganda undermines it's socialist excellence every day.
That’s my take anyway.

like they pick up the goods, i pay them a flat rate, and maybe we split any sales 50/50
