Turkey! Let us hope that Erdogan doesn't think he's got a "Navalny" to silence, and/or a Tiananmen Square to copy as his road to political survival. Trump (with no General Milley) would sympathize and endorse! Pray this thought is unreal and it is wrong!

This is nothing different for Turkish history , unfortunately for the Turkish citizenry. Like Russia and India and China it's never had any actual democratic life at all. In Turkey, the sultans ruled with absolute control. I imagine there's a coterie of traditionalists who admire this behaviour.
