The right-wing media successfully demonized it and turned it into a political boat anchor. While it is a reasonable climate measure on its own it ceases to be that if it serves to put climate denialists in power. Sucks, but it is reality.

I have spent the last decade watching Liberals support rail against policies when done by Cons only to then turn around and support the very same policies when implemented by Lib gov'ts
