Vehicles are larger and the majority are no longer sedans. Larger vehicles, regardless of type, means more upright windshields. The less acute the angle the less force from debry is deflected. Aerodynamics also means even in smaller cars the debris deflected from larger ones has more momentum.

Why are windshields so fragile these days? This is the third crack in my windshield within the last year.
