the problem here is thinking it's about 'surviving the next four years' - that's not how things work - the US system, checks and balances, is being dismantled. History tells us these events are not short-lived or simply wiped out and restored with a new election. There's a playbook in action.

Of course - and also there's context here, including that Sian (and I) are based in the UK and Europe, and I'm terrified at how many Europeans are pointing & laughing at the US while more fascists get elected, and how many people in the US are petrified into inaction by the shock and awe

Sorry, but that is gobbledygook. Pubs WANT us to separately focus on some few of hundreds of issues. We ALL need to focus on ONE issue. KICKING TRUMP OUT OF OFFICE. Every effort of everyone, ramping up in intensity, needs to be focused on that. Let the attorneys & politicians block indiv issues.

Sometimes you strike at small targets to weaken the leader. That won't work here because the small targets are a ruse. We need to strike at the heart. A clean, decisive, & organized movement... a stated objective, laid out actions ramping up over days & weeks, central platform & fundraising, etc.

As said before, both the writer and myself are not based in the US (although I vote in the US). It's more a warning to us in other places to get to work on not letting facism sneak up on us, especially since it's already here.

I understand. But the problem right now is the lack of focus. Understandably many different people have their own particular issues they are most concerned about. But as long as we stay separated, in smaller, less organized groups, we can be targeted, disregarded, marginalized. We need a spear.

I hear you. But I think that will take some time to happen, and in the meantime individuals can keep funding abortions and donating to food banks and all the rest of it. There's no unity on the left currently but when you see a spear let me know and I'll encourage people to throw it
