Nah. At 41, I actually start by being very observant. If I see an interesting car, I look for an opportunity to ask the driver about it. Like, I saw some dude at the local petrol station with a 1967 Chevy Chevelle, and my first words to him were "that's a nice set of wheels you got there."

I then ask questions like "what year is it?" and "what do you got under the hood?"

It is only at that point where I start asking questions like "are you part of any car clubs?" If they say yes, I ask questions about the car club but I never ask them if they will try to get me in.

If I am genuinely serious about joining the car club, I will ask one question: "who do I talk to if I want to join?" Then when I am given the name, I immediately look up the car club online, try to find a contact number, then call it and ask to speak to that person if that person isn't the contact.

To make friends after 30, the first thing you have to understand is it's not like when you were younger. You can't just walk up and ask people to be your friend. When you're older, everything takes more time, even making friends.

And you will quickly learn that when you're over 30, you care more about experiences than you do about having stuff or consuming products. You care more about having people in your life you share interests with. You care more about your quality of life.
