In 1990 the NFL awards Phoenix the 93 Super Bowl. The governor wins a campaign that promises to end the MLK holiday - he does. The NFL says that if there isn't a holiday, they won't get the Super Bowl. The Gov is impeached and the people successfully fight for a referendum.
Arizona loses the Super Bowl. But the resistance keeps fighting - there is economic pressure on Arizona, protests, losing the state conventions, visitors, business. It such a for Arizona and they get a second referendum in 1992. This one wins. 🧵
