The ~1.3-1.4 C of global average surface temperature rise humans have caused, mostly by burning fossil fuels, is already intensifying heat waves by up to 4 C (note the difference between a peak and an average). This is killing people, but we can avoid unnecessary deaths by quickly cutting emissions.
