Direct play is the actual way to do it though, no transcoding. Live transcoding is brutal

I have had Plex (lifetime) for many years. Suddenly it can’t find my Synology NAS server. I’ve been at if for 2 weeks.. full uninstall, re-install.. all it finds is my MAC.

These have been very distressing weeks as I can’t access my 1500 movies etc.!

if your connection is good, i would disallow transcoding. but that’s just me. most people will be able to stream your stuff if you don’t go fancy on codecs and it’s a blessing for your cpu/gpu/power consumption.

My friend has a big stonking server in his rented apartment with about 6 hard disks. He gives access to his friends and even takes requests from them about what to put onto the Plex server.
