Agree -- but it's also a straightforward effort to rewrite the history of the U.S. as never having had steps toward and struggles about racial equality and justice -- because we were always perfect or racial injustice was minimal and short-lived.

Trump is already trying to erase race as something that's analyzed by researchers. This is a concerted effort to know less rather than more, contra long research traditions. Example: Data on neighborhoods and demographics was gathered by public health data collectors in London in the late 19th c.
