It's the way he's wording things...feels like he's accepted all the media stuff and fronting the nonsense so he's agreed to do the minimum with the squad....no more i.e scoring more goals and winning...he's happy to not push the team or the players....it has to be something along them lines

All this rubbish he spouts, Beto had hit double figures last 4 seasons before he joined us. DCL under Silva and Carlo far better and at the time he said it was working with Big Dunc that helped. But Dyche knows best we don’t need a striker coach!

Whilst I can appreciate the risk for TFG in “Rip it all up” especially before PL footy is guaranteed for next season,it’s surely logical they bring in a new vision wholesale for the club which means, in this order, new DOF, new manager & sort out players/contracts. Dyche has already said he wont play anyone he doesnt want so this makes the DoF role a facade to me. Both have had to operate in tough conditions but have ultimately failed to address our toothless inability to score goals.

I disagree, the role of DOF is to identify the players with the manager and bring the required players into the club however I do believe it’s his job to identify the manager also regardless of the opinion of the board otherwise he’s worthless.
They are all inept and need replacing.

If I was an owner or DoF and witnessed my manager publicly referring to 2 players from over 40 years ago that confirm no need for attacking specialist coaches, loud alarm bells would be ringing in my ears around the competence and suitability of the individual for the job in this era of the game !

I don’t think coaching is a domain of a DoF. Whilst the role ie important, I think if you’re taking that off a manager it’s a step too far. That’s the manager’s domain

He makes a point that he doesn't feel specialist coaches are anything but a 'fad' and how chatting to his mates who retired 40 years ago backed that pov. Firstly its wrong imo his view, secondly I'd be ashamed if I was a Dof hearing that. Appreciate you see it differently but that's my view on it.

I think the Head Coach should have the final say on hiring new coaches, not the DoF. Thelwell can advise Dyche but the coaching staff is ultimately Dyche's team. Bringing in unwanted staff would undermine the Head Coach - better to just sack the Head Coach in that case rather than undermine them imo

The whole point of a DOF is they pick the head coach. Whether they pick all the coaching staff remains to be seen; it’s all semantics. When the DOF decides on the head coach, they will have already discussed with them who the coaching staff will be. Ultimately the DOF is above the head coach.

I agree with that - the DoF picks the Head Coach - but imo the Head Coach should pick the coaching staff. If the DoF is not happy with the coaching team, either mutually agree to new coaching staff or sack the Head Coach.

Just thought it was fair to defend Thelwell in this instance - I don't think it is weak leadership to decide against bringing in new coaching staff when the Head Coach does not want them.

Thelwell not sacking Dyche could be viewed as weak but that's a separate argument...
