The VGA is better in some ways (the water) but I feel it's worse in others, particularly the ship. I know the EGA was the "original" art and the VGA was based off of it by other artists, so it's hard to see it as anything but a blurry copy.
Anyway the Amiga's 32 colour palette is supreme ;)
