Well I am all snuggly in my chair and I still haven’t had enough Taylor in my life today, so if you would comment one of your favorite Taylor songs, I’ll tell you my favorite lyrics from it!

Lyrically, the song is very junior.
I like how the chorus is almost like self talk, she’s not necessarily convincing others. She’s trying to convince herself that she can do this!
But how many 15/16 year-olds admit to themselves that they can be wrong? Taylor does!
Couldn't have said it any better, lyrically simple but effective and the tone definitely gives off a vibe of self-motivation.
Because how long would you have to pace an order for the floor to fall through?
But for some more variety: “soon they’ll go home to their husbands, smug cause they know they can trust him” the way the line bounces just itches that itch.
And people will ask, but it’s not, because they’re being sympathetic, or empathetic, it’s because they’re being nosy.
“Guess who we ran into down at the shops?” the opening line to any teatime gossip
This whole entire song so fits the theme of Feminine Rage, The Musical
But for some more variety: “soon they’ll go home to their husbands, smug cause they know they can trust him” the way the line bounces just itches that itch.
I know. It’s so small, but it’s such an incredible line. It’s a huge act that no one needs to know. And I love that this is a complete opposite line of “Cold as You” where she said. “I know you wouldn’t have told nobody if I died for you.”
I just can’t help laugh with admiration at that line. It’s so funny and so real. Like the fact that that line opens the entire folklore album is amazing.
the whole song in general, it kinda has like no hard feelings??
OK, can I just say I love Stay Beautiful so much and I love it because men don’t hear in any social or societal messaging that they’re beautiful. That they are worthy of beauty. 16 year-old Taylor wrote that!
This is incredibly impressive for a teenage girl to write. The respect is there, if he doesn’t turn up, she still wishes him well, she’s not gonna turn around and call him names. That he’s still beautiful.
I love how she literally manifested herself into being the biggest thing that nobody can hit.
So I love how she talks about moving to the big old city, before she starts about him at a bar talking over a football game
Because she’s putting herself first and her vision first.
It’s giving: guy that never moves out of his hometown, his high school teachers were unfair to him at school, and is still the victim everywhere he goes?
“I’ll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror.”
Saying that they would rather endure the pain of doing something harmful rather than looking inward. Rather go blind.
The entire song, though is satirical, sarcastic on self-deprecating, which is very “millennial”
Check the pulse and come back swearin' it's the same
After three months in the grave
And then you wondered where it went to as I reached for you
But all I felt was shame and you held my lifeless frame.”
Obsessed! What’s yours?
it's also a really good song on top of that
But I’m very drawn to the opening line: “We gather here, we line up, weepin' in a sunlit room. And if I'm on fire, you'll be made of ashes too.”
The scene is very obviously set as this funeral-type event. But what I really like is that
The song's topic is something I'm deeply passionate about.
I listen to a lot of newer and new-ish artists and no one understand how happy I get when I see that the copyright and playing copyright is the their name, a friend's name, or something about the arist.
IM ON FIRE: like she was cremated, and the subject of the story, consequently, cremated themselves, because they’re going to go down without her. They won’t survive without her.
My favorite lyric is "and if I'm dead to you why are you at the wake?" And then if you tie that in with "and you can aim for my heart, go for blood / but you would still miss me in your bones"
I love, I think he knows! It’s such a fun song! And Taylor has been building the best bridges, the most skilled architects ever seen in the world ever since !

“I hosted parties and starved my body. Like I'd be saved by a perfect kiss.”
Just because this was literally me. This was me trying so hard for something that I really manufactured in my head. I became someone else trying to impress.
That she found her real love, which was her songs and her music
The Great War. What can I say about my favorite song in only 300 characters.
I love the motives of self-destruction and abandonment. She feels her love will abandon her because she’s been so damaged. She’s not seeing clearly. LIKE PTSD PERHAPS?!?
Favorite line: “we can plan a memory garden, say a solemn prayer, place a poppy in my hair.”
Is that your key in the door?
Is it ok? Is it you?
Or have they come to take me away?”
That she’s waiting there, in complete silence, doing nothing..so quiet she hears a key in a lock
I like this, because it’s like she can tell something is wrong, she visually sees it, but at the same time she doesn’t see the smoke, the after effects ?
I love this because the direct opposite is STILL what we hear in media, socially, societally 😡
Hustled vs. “Slept her way to the top” (ugh Kamala Harris 😭)
I love the Man, I don’t care if people say it’s cringe. I love it.
all of the text painting is quite literally how she puts up this huge front to be such a prevalent figure in his life, and he simply can’t even give her a “footnote”, the smallest mention or recognition.
I love this one because it’s like all the words she wants to say are going up in smoke.
evermore just makes me feel so solemnly peaceful. You know? What’s your favorite line?
i love the choruses and how they change each time, but if i had to choose one line, it would be “but i swear, you were there.” it’s just a line i associate with so many people, including taylor and her music
I’m LOVING your answers to all of these!!! very interesting insights 🫶 is it ok if I steal this idea? 🥹
I love this line because not only does it play into the theme of toys and dolls, but also how many times she’s had to say it over and over and over again. Like she has it recorded. Like it’s the only thing she can say.
basically calling them out that they can’t look down from their pedestal and face the consequences of the tarnished relationships they created
These hunters with cell phones.”
It’s like everyone just wants a piece of her somehow someway, and then they’re not even a person to her? They’re just a robot, getting their quota on her
Mine are: I want auroras and sad prose, I want to watch wisteria grow right over my bare feet, ‘cause I haven’t moved in years
Almost like she’s telling the story many years later, and she’s over it now, but she still wants him to know that she waited for him. And not to give him hope, but to let him know that he wasted her time.
Cassandra: Blood's thick but nothing like a payroll, they never spared a prayer for my soul.
I slept on it for a minute while the ‘bigger’ songs were really in the limelight, but Cassandra is literally a masterpiece. Musically, it uses modulations and recurring themes …
There’s nothing more I can say about this. It’s a perfect line the way that it is. I am honestly obsessed with it. Especially because right after she talks about sacrifice, and it’s like she was sacrificed on an altar. Chills every time.
Clean is perfection and I love both the original and Taylor’s version so much.
There are so many beautiful motifs and symbols for addiction and recovery throughout the song that include relapsing, silent struggles, and hitting rock bottom.
She realizes she has to become self reliant, that only she can save her
like the Gardens of Babylon
Plotted hard to fuck this up.”
I love this line because it’s like they don’t have to keep their skeletons from each other like some sort of secret. And now they can team up and beat them together.
