This is also why not even getting a glimpse of a supposedly resurrected Cas in the finale hurt. Because Dean was crushed enough by his death to cry on the floor and not answer Sam, that only having a mention of him in the finale felt so wrong. Not to mention not having Misha in that episode.
(And I just watched the show for the first time in 2022 and had already heard all about the ending so expected quite a few things and it still felt that way)
