entire office of office of infectious disease and HIV/AIDS policy getting fired really making me think about the dems constant love and praise for reagan over the years and their inability/unwillingness to fight back against anything right now

Hillary Clinton praised Nancy's "low-key AIDS activism," which from another mouth might have been a dark joke but was from her meant as focus-tested approval
Post citizens united, that's the function of the Democratic party as demanded by their corporate masters. They're not here to win, per se, but to mollify their base and restrict leftward drift. They're effective.
Every Democrat I know hates Reagan. His stupid expensive china and no response to AIDS and a bunch of needless bs on a lot of fronts while gutting education and empowering banks
dems love of reagan really pisses me off for all the obvious reasons but also because the ones who can't shut the fuck up about how much they adore that ghoul were fully grown adults when he was in power. they saw and lived through what he did and it didn't bother them at all.
funny thing is, i decided to look up nancy pelosi's actions during the aids crisis. they were... actually pretty good!
this... pisses me off even more about her! because she KNOWS what was happening, she even ACTED on policy to make it better, and she STILL won't stop praising reagan!
"let's not let a whole bunch of dead queers disrupt the spirit of collegiality" ass shit. infinitely more public venom for anybody in her own party that dares to push back against the status quo.
I think many Dems' professed love for Reagan began as a calculated agitprop attempt to woo center-right voters away from the likes of Cheney, Palin, and more recently Trump—by representing Reagan as *relatively* more sane and moderate: which, incredibly, he was. >
This agitprop attempt has devolved over time into a kind of counterproductive muscle memory: centrist Dems reflexively praising Reagan without really knowing why, somehow thinking it will help them even though the time for it has passed and it hurts them with base voters more than >
It's a little like the same centrist Dems reflexively supporting Netanyahu because support for Israel used to be what Jewish Dems wanted. Today, we Jewish Dem base voters despise Netanyahu and know that supporting him is very different >
from actually supporting Israel, but centrist Dems are still acting on that muscle memory and supporting Netanyahu—even though supporting Netanyahu means contributing to, and being blamed for, his barbarity in Gaza.
having encountered you before i think you are astonishingly credulous about the dems motivations for their public professed love of reagan and conservative policy/barbarous policy, out of in part an understandable desperate desire to believe they do give a shit about any of us.
Obama used to say Reagan was “transformative”, which could be a euphemism for “fucked everything beyond all recognition”. That makes me wonder if he meant it that way on purpose.

Muscle memory. It's nuts.
