I keep seeing people recommend Adblock Plus for an adblocker.
Please don't use Adblock Plus. They've been running their own ad network to allow people to pay to bypass their ad blocking.
It can be turned off but by default it is enabled.
Please use uBlock Origin instead.

YouTube ad blocking is not stable right now. Things are changing almost daily.
Expect to need to update your ad blocker filters, or possibly even get a dedicated YouTube ad blocker for the near future.
I don't have recs on a dedicated YouTube ad blocker right now though.
Though even after youtube does the "three strikes, videos blocked" thing, it seems to only be browser based. Simply copying and pasting the link you're trying to watch into a private or incognito tab bypasses it.
Or waiting an hour or so.
