It is a great honour to announce the publication of my first article in the US with the Sixteenth Century Journal. I would like to thank to the wonderful blind peer reviewers and the publisher's team for all their work. They were simply amazing.

This research, that combines both micro and global history analysis, is based on royal treasury official Juan Lozano Machuca (1539-1585) and his world of social connections, among them the powerful Corzo family and Philip II's secretary Antonio de Eraso.
These networks ran across multiple juxtaposed jurisdictions which they used to their advantage, when possible. These highly mobile characters benefitted from the polycentric Spanish Monarchy, becoming instrumental to empire expansion.
However, they were also vulnerable pieces in a complex structure of “weak ties” exposed to courtier politics and political changes. In its conclusions, I establish a comparison with the situation in sixteenth century England.
