Maybe? I wonder who is behind the DJ selection listening to some of these pre-recorded sets and going "yeah, this is good," because holy yikes dude. I do have bias because with DC being a HEAVY clubbing area, I get to experience multiple genres in a dance space, mostly House, Funk, HipHop & Disco.

Also; understand key transitions too - you can BPM and vibe match, but the keys might not be compatible. Hell, do what I do and use Camelot keys if you can't remember the normal keys, and understand the circle of fifths to get between tracks....

I make an attempt to but sometimes there'll be a blend that works well regardless, maybe one of the tracks is too atonal to make a difference or the key tag is wrong.

There are always exceptions; that comes down to knowledge of the tracks and how you handle them. I've got a couple I used to use from the days of DJing on vinyl that worked complete with car-crash keys, but yeah - they tend to be rare!

If you get a con mainstage slot for a dance, you are playing music FOR THE CROWD TO DANCE TO! When you can't transition or match crowd energy it 10000% destroys the vibe!

When you are DJing for yourself and not for the community and are unwilling to take feedback, IT SHOWS THROUGH YOUR MUSIC SETS!

I can't explain how many times I've gone to a con dance set, and had any kind of flow/vibe when dancing absolutely trashed by terrible transitioning between tracks, between genres/subgenres, and generally poor mixing.

Even genre specific sets have variation in energy. Don't need 1 hour of what sounds like the exact same song just cause the crowd liked for the first 5 minutes

This!!! I've also run across DJs playing like a 12 second max selection of a track before harshly transitioning to another. It's super aggravating when they don't just let the track play out for a moment! It's fine if intentional, but damn if you're gonna transition out at least make it sound good.
